interpersonal relationship convo

so i was talking to a friend online (please ignore the horrible grammar):

He says (11:51:54 AM): hey
I say (11:52:00 AM): heya :0
He says (11:52:03 AM): you going to kessles birthday thing
I say (11:52:13 AM): kessel is having a bday thing?
He says (11:52:26 AM): oh that's right you're not on myspace or facebook
I say (11:52:38 AM): yeah.. i need direct contact.. heh
I say (11:52:42 AM): when and where?
He says (11:52:46 AM): you really need to get on one of them
I say (11:52:50 AM): why?
I say (11:52:56 AM): everyone i know has my email and IM
I say (11:53:12 AM): if they want to contact me they shall
He says (11:53:13 AM): cause some much info is spread through networking sites rather then email
He says (11:53:34 AM): i hardly use email anymore
He says (11:53:53 AM): it's more for work related or group promotions
I say (11:54:29 AM): meh... i know.. i mean shaw promotions still have a myspace but thats work stuff.. normal interactions with friends i prefer a text or an IM or an email or.. (dare i say )a phone call
I say (11:54:38 AM):
He says (11:54:57 AM): myspace i can understand the annoyance you should try facebook
I say (11:55:16 AM): i did for a while but i still had a myspace at the time so i didnt see the point
He says (11:55:19 AM): you missed the mini byrant reunion last month
He says (11:55:35 AM): Sylvia from dance company organized it
I say (11:55:36 AM): well you should've IMed me then shouldn't have you?
I say (11:56:24 AM): i'm around.. just.. you know.. not for random bands and acquaintances that i barely speak to..
He says (11:56:41 AM): what the point of working with in the information age when you deny yourself the most easiest and most popular ways to get information
I say (11:57:11 AM): i don't.. i have a linked in acct for work..i have you tube and msnbc at my disposal..
I say (11:57:58 AM): myspace just seems too self indulgent to me.. sum yourself on one page.. why? people can get to me from mysite or my blog or flickr.. seems superfluous
He says (11:57:59 AM): they're great for knowing what going on around the world, not what going on with your friends next week
I say (11:58:13 AM): i have cnn for that
I say (11:58:16 AM): :P
I say (11:58:20 AM): heh
I say (11:58:25 AM): i dont think i
I say (11:58:31 AM): 'd want work news from myspace..
I say (11:58:37 AM): world i mean
He says (11:59:18 AM): as the internet and modern technology advances, interpersonal contact will be considered more superfluous...
He says (11:59:41 AM): it's to the point concept like romance can even be found on web
He says (12:00:51 PM): do you know that psychologist have notice that children have less and less eye contact with each other cause internet communication has dominated there form of communication
I say (12:01:03 PM): yeah.. and thats what i'm not ok with.. face to face.. calls.. texts and email even seem more conective than someone leaving a comment on a page
I say (12:01:19 PM): thats a horrible statistic
He says (12:01:39 PM): i'm not saying its a good thing i'm just playing devils advocate
I say (12:02:06 PM): maybe because my job is online.. its to create web presences...it makes me shy away from any extra ways to disconnect you know?
I say (12:02:09 PM): yeah i know.
He says (12:02:49 PM): they've also concluding that writing has become worse cause kids do it less
I say (12:03:06 PM): besides i was on that site for ages.. did it do anything for me? no...did i meet any friends? no.. what was it for? self promotion. i have a site for that already.. no point you know
He says (12:03:07 PM): no more passing notes in class, now they just text each other
I say (12:03:16 PM): lol that i believe
I say (12:03:48 PM): sit down and write a letter to someone.. even for our generation it feels alien.. let alone so my nephews gen
I say (12:05:37 PM): i s hould do that.. i should write someone a letter and MAIL it.. just to see if i get a response
I say (12:05:49 PM): i'll most likely get an email saying..thanks for the letter heh
He says (12:08:23 PM): yep

How helpful is technology..really?
When you consider that we're loosing basic skills like writting and eye contact? Scary...
