smart kids or dumb parents?

When i read this article a couple of weeks ago i though, hrmmm that's interesting.

But today a co-worker brought his kid in. The one he always says is gifted. He's sitting whining at a computer right now playing a dora the explorer game. You know what, he's a kid! He's a normal little kid and that isn't something that you should feel bad about. You should be grateful for it dammit!

Let them be kids for christs sake. The other day this same parent told me that his kid's favorite movie is A Clockwork Orange. HE'S FOUR! Why in the HELL! are you showing him that movie?! Fuck, in ten years you'll be lucky if he's not in therapy recounting how he was applauded for watching a movie about violence!

so i've been looking online for a cute original looking laptop bag and found this:


awesome for me right? A messenger bag with padding for a laptop and come on..it's a freakin' pulp cover! I went nuts when i ordered it, couldnt wait even had it overnighted!!!

Well i got it today and was not happy. Turns out the bag is huge. I mean really really huge. and stiff.. picture a luggage case...you know how most of them have that hard corner thing so it doesnt get bent? Thats what this bag is like. There's some sort of hard plastic shell inside or something, it's crazy. Not at all like a messenger bag should be. Also..the back is completely covered in this royal purple velevet thats just horrible. See the strap? see how it looks black? Yeah, well it comes with a sholder pad which is purple too. Purple velvet.
I'll wait until you soak that in.

So now i have to return it. Very Very annoying. Did i mention that its big? Yeah, gotta carry this huge box over to the post office now. Argh

I have always relied on the kindness of strangers...

Unable to sleep most of night just thinking about life..the past.. my future. I finally got a nap in at 5am...woke up at 7 and trekked to the city.

Only to find that the office i needed was closed today (of all days) until 3pm.

After cursing my luck for a minute i walked around the building sipping my coffee hoping for.. something. Luck?
I walked into one of the only open offices and asked for help. A wonderful woman named Juanita who hadn't even had her morning coffee yet took pity on me and helped me out. In 5 min I had all the information I needed.

Thank you Juanita!! You could have easily said "Tough break...come back tomorrow. That's not my job..." But, you didn't. You helped and in that seemingly simple act lifted my spirits.

So, new years resolutions...

1- Stop smoking.. I've already sort of quit. Only slipped up once when I was out with a friend . (damn you anthony and your cloves!)

2- Lose weight. Not very original I know...

3- Start wearing color. I know.. i know..but i'm serious this time, and not just on laundry day!
